About this meetup

This is BRUG’s soft opening — an informal first gathering to meet the community and lay out what we are building together. No prior BRUG experience required (obviously). Show up, say hello, and tell us what you code.

Details

  • Date: Monday, July 7, 2026
  • Time: 1:00 – 2:30 PM
  • Location: CS 3139, Computer Science Building, UW–Madison

Agenda

Meet and Greet — introductions, coffee, the usual. We want to know who is in the room and what brings you here.

The Burrows — a walkthrough of BRUG’s new community website, where we will host resources, tools, tutorials, and presentations. The site lives on GitHub and is built so that contributing is as simple as opening a pull request — which is itself a small lesson in reproducible workflow.

Show and tell — everyone brings one thing: a favorite package, a useful workflow, an RStudio trick, or anything else that made your R life a little easier. No slides required, no polish necessary — just share what you’ve been finding useful lately.

Who should come

Anyone who writes R code at UW–Madison — grad students, postdocs, staff researchers, faculty, or curious undergrads. Bring your laptop if you want to follow along with the demo.
